Rochester Indian Association, http://www.sa.rochester.edu/ria
Being in India for so many years when suddenly you have to leave the country, you feel a lot has been left behind. The exciting transition to a new country is many a times overpowered by the nostalgia of captivating memories back home smiling at you.
While it is true that India can't be duplicated, RIA is a sincere effort to fill that void and make that transition easier and more enjoyable. RIA is for Indian students* (current and former) on the campus of University of Rochester, NY USA.
RIA was formed, in the spring of 2007, as we felt there was a need for a platform for graduate/post- doctoral students of Indian origin but limiting RIA to only graduates will be a self-defeating step. We welcome all Indians to RIA with same excitement. RIA aims to foster our cultural bindings and oneness in this campus by creating an ensemble of all graduate, post-doctoral and under-graduate students as a well knit community; to help new comers have an easy transition in this beautiful city of Rochester and most important of all to make our time spent in Rochester as a myriad collection of memories worth cherishing for the rest of our lives. While your stay in Rochester we are sure you will make many good friends from USA and other nations and we hope that RIA will be able to act as an added platform to increase your friend list.
We invite Indian students to become a part of this effort. Your suggestions will always be heard with utmost attention. Through a collective efforts that we can create a better niche for all of us. So you will always matter!
This group is dedicated to the feeling of us within us. Lets make our stay in Rochester full of friends to remember and stories to share.
* We are a non-profit students' association and have no affiliation with any organization (even though we may organize events time to time in sync with other groups/associations).
